Arthur A. Nehring

Arthur A. H. Nehring, age 70, of Rice, died in the Barnes Jewish Hospital in St. Louis, MO on Saturday, April 1, 2000 at 10:30 p.m.
Arthur was born in Rice on February 10, 1930, the only son of Otto H. and Anna C. (Jausel) Nehring.  He was united in marriage to Mary L. Hutchings on May 12, 1951 in Washington, IL and from this union came 5 children.  He served in the US Army during the Korean Conflict.  In 1952, Arthur accepted Jesus Christ as his Savior on a ship traveling to Japan during his tour of duty.  He joined the Concord Baptist Church in Rice in 1953 and was named Deacon in 1973.  He served in numerous positions within the church during his years as a member.  His current position is Asst. Treasurer and Deacon.  He also served on the Concord Cemetery Committee.  Mr. Nehring owned and operated Nehring Gas Co. an worked for the Illinois Baptist State Association as a Camp Manager at Lake Sallateeska Baptist Camp for 20 years.  He was a volunteer of the Little Egypt Network of The American Red Cross where he worked with the Single Family Disaster Relief all across the United States.  He worked with the ESDA of Perry County and belonged to the World Changers organization.  He also worked with the Illinois Baptist Disaster Relief Unit and belonged to the Campers on Mission.
Survivors include his wife, Mary of Rice; two sons, Donald A. Nehring and wife Karla of Pinckneyville and Scott A. Nehring and wife Sarah of Rice; three daughters, Alice Lyn Brock and husband Greg of Decatur, Cheryl A. Folden and husband Russell of Tampa, FL and Lori Lou Nehring of St. Louis, MO; a sister, Doris Porter and husband Lester of Nashville; 18 grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents and an infant sister.
Funeral services were held at the Concord Baptist Church in Rice on Tuesday, April 4 at 11 a.m. with Rev. Steve Hamilton and Rev. Don Grammer officiating.  Interment was in the Concord Cemetery.
Visitation was held on Monday, April 3 from 5 until 9 p.m. and on Tuesday from 8 until 9:30 a.m. at the Pyatt-Harrawood Funeral Home in Pinckneyville.  Then visitation was at the Concord Baptist Church from 10 a.m. until services.
Memorials may be made to the American Red Cross Little Egypt Network or the Concord Baptist Church.
